Google Indie Games Fund Africa

Google has launched the Google Play Indie Games Fund in Africa, committing $1 million to support independent game developers across Sub-Saharan Africa. The initiative marks the first time the Google Play Indie Games Fund has been introduced on the continent.

The new fund aims to help promising game studios grow their businesses and reach global audiences. Google will select 10 indie studios, with each receiving between $50,000 and $200,000 in funding. Selected developers will also receive mentorship and hands-on technical support from Google.

According to the company, Sub-Saharan Africa is home to one of the world’s fastest-growing gaming markets. The region is known for its rich storytelling and growing pool of creative talent. However, many local studios still struggle to secure the funding needed to scale their games and compete internationally.

Beyond financial support, the program gives selected studios access to experienced mentors and technical guidance. Google says the support will help developers improve their games, grow sustainable businesses, and reach more players through Google Play. The company believes Africa’s growing gaming ecosystem has the potential to produce globally successful titles with the right backing.
