Galaxy S27 Ultra Leaks: Samsung Prepares massive Camera & Battery redesigns

For years, Samsung have treated “Ultra” phones the same way: add more cameras, push bigger numbers, and call it innovation. But  Samsung’s rumored Galaxy S27 lineup suggests something different is happening behind the scenes. Instead of chasing spec-sheet bragging rights, the company may finally be redesigning its flagship phones around efficiency, battery life, and real-world usability  even if that means removing a camera entirely.

With rumors flying around the Samsung S27 ultra, it is ideal to bear in mind some changes to expect in this device.

1. Samsung May Finally Be Rethinking the Ultra Formula

For years, Samsung’s Ultra phones have followed a familiar pattern: more cameras, bigger specs, and small year-over-year refinements wrapped in nearly identical designs.

But according to new reports tied to Samsung’s supply chain, the company may be preparing a much bigger shift for the rumored Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra lineup in 2027.

Instead of pushing for thinner bodies or adding even more camera hardware, Samsung is reportedly focusing on something more practical: efficiency. The company is said to be redesigning the phone’s internal layout to free up space for a larger battery while also reducing overall weight.

The biggest change? Samsung could completely remove the dedicated 3x telephoto camera from the Ultra model.

At the same time, reports also point to a broader four-device lineup, including a new premium 6.4-inch Galaxy S27 Pro  a device many are already calling Samsung’s “Mini Ultra.

2. Removing a Camera Could Actually Improve the Phone

At first glance, removing a camera from an Ultra phone sounds like a downgrade.

But the logic behind it is surprisingly convincing.

Modern telephoto camera systems take up a huge amount of physical space inside smartphones. Between the sensor, stabilization hardware, and lens assembly, these modules consume valuable room that could be used elsewhere.

Samsung reportedly believes the dedicated 3x zoom camera is no longer worth that tradeoff.

Instead of using the recovered space to make the phone thinner, the company appears to be redirecting it toward a larger battery. That alone could dramatically improve battery life without increasing the phone’s thickness.

Removing the extra camera hardware could also reduce overall weight  something many Ultra users have complained about for years.

In other words, Samsung may finally be prioritizing real-world usability over spec-sheet excess.

3. The 3x Telephoto Lens May Have Become out dated

The rumored removal of the 3x lens highlights a bigger shift happening across smartphone photography.

High-resolution sensors have become so advanced that many phones no longer need separate mid-range zoom cameras. A modern 200MP sensor can crop directly into the image while still maintaining impressive detail at 2x or 3x zoom levels.

That means Samsung may no longer see the need for a lower-resolution dedicated 3x sensor.

Instead, the company could rely on:

 – sensor cropping for mid-range zoom

– a powerful periscope camera for long-distance zoom

– software processing powered by AI imaging

If true, this would simplify the entire camera system while freeing up internal space for more important upgrades.

And honestly, it makes sense.

Most users probably use the main camera and high zoom camera far more often than a separate 3x lens.

4. The “Mini Ultra” Could Be the Most Interesting Part

The rumored Galaxy S27 Pro might actually be the biggest story here.

For years, Android users who wanted the best cameras and performance were forced into huge phones because premium hardware was mostly reserved for Ultra devices.

Samsung may finally be changing that.

The S27 Pro is rumored to feature flagship-level cameras and top-tier performance in a smaller 6.4-inch body  but without the internal S Pen hardware that normally adds bulk to Ultra phones.

That could create an entirely new category for Samsung:
a compact flagship that still feels truly premium.

For users who love powerful phones but hate oversized devices, this could easily become the standout model of the lineup.

5. Samsung Still Has One Big Challenge

Even if the hardware changes make sense, Samsung will still face a perception problem.

Selling an Ultra phone with fewer cameras is risky from a marketing standpoint. On paper, moving from a quad-camera setup to a triple-camera system can easily look like cost-cutting to average buyers.

Samsung will need to convince people that smarter hardware matters more than simply having more hardware.

There is also the issue of rising component costs.

Leaks suggest the next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chip could become extremely expensive due to its advanced AI processing capabilities and manufacturing process. Some reports estimate the chip alone could cost Samsung more than $300 per unit.

If that happens, the entire S27 lineup could see another noticeable price increase.

6. A Shift Toward AI and Endurance

Samsung is also expected to push the S27 lineup heavily around on-device AI.

That explains why battery life and thermal efficiency may be becoming bigger priorities. Future Galaxy AI features will likely rely more on local processing instead of cloud-based tasks, meaning phones will need larger batteries and more efficient chipsets to keep up.

The rumored S27 redesign seems built around that future.

Less wasted space.
Fewer unnecessary components.
More battery.
Better efficiency.

That’s a very different philosophy from the “more cameras, more hardware” race that defined smartphones for years.
