Google Credits AI for Unprecedented Surge in Chrome Security Fixes, Patching More Bugs in June Than in the Previous Two Years

Google says artificial intelligence is transforming the way it secures Chrome, revealing that the company fixed more security vulnerabilities in its web browser during June than it did over the previous two years combined.

According to Google’s Chrome security team, the company addressed 1,072 security bugs across two Chrome releases in June, surpassing the 1,036 vulnerabilities fixed in the previous 23 Chrome versions released over the past two years. Google attributed the milestone to AI-powered tools that help engineers identify hidden software flaws more quickly and efficiently.

The company said AI has significantly improved its ability to scan Chrome’s massive codebase, uncover previously undetected vulnerabilities, and accelerate the development of security patches. However, Google stressed that human engineers continue to review, validate, and deploy every fix before it reaches users.

Google noted that the surge in bug fixes does not mean Chrome has become less secure. Instead, it reflects the company’s improved ability to detect and resolve vulnerabilities that might otherwise have remained undiscovered for much longer.

To further strengthen browser security, Google plans to introduce a more frequent update schedule, delivering Chrome security updates every two weeks. The company is also developing technologies that will allow many security patches to be installed without requiring users to restart their browser.

The announcement highlights the growing role of artificial intelligence beyond consumer-facing products, with AI increasingly becoming a critical tool for cybersecurity, software maintenance, and vulnerability detection. As cyber threats continue to evolve, Google says AI is helping its security teams respond faster and better protect the billions of people who rely on Chrome every day.
