Nigeria Unveils Meta-Backed AI Government Chatbot

Getting information from government agencies in Nigeria has never been easy. Long queues, complex processes, language barriers, and limited digital infrastructure have left millions of citizens struggling to access public services.That may now be changing.

Nigeria has officially launched GovGuide Nigeria, a Meta-backed AI chatbot designed to give citizens faster, simpler, and more inclusive access to government information.The platform was developed through a partnership between , the , the , and local AI company .

Announced during Meta’s Economic Impact Report launch in Nigeria, GovGuide uses Meta’s open-source AI models to power a multilingual voice and text interface accessible via WhatsApp and the web.What makes GovGuide stand out is not just the technology, but its purpose.

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, , said the platform was created to address long-standing barriers Nigerians face when trying to access government services. According to him, language limitations and overly complex systems continue to shut millions of people out of opportunities and critical public information.

That reflects the everyday reality for many Nigerians, particularly in underserved communities where navigating government systems can be frustrating and time-consuming.

GovGuide Nigeria gives citizens access to information from more than 35 federal ministries and over 60 government agencies through a single platform.

Instead of visiting multiple websites, offices, or call centres, users can now get answers directly on their phones in real time.

A major strength of GovGuide is its multilingual capability.

The AI chatbot supports English, Hausa, Igbo,and Yoruba, making government information accessible in Nigeria’s most widely spoken languages.

It also uses localized machine translation and speech recognition systems built specifically for Nigerian language patterns, making it more effective than generic AI tools adapted for African users.

Meta’s Head of Public Policy, , described GovGuide Nigeria as a practical example of how open-source AI can drive economic growth and productivity.

The launch also strengthens Meta’s push to expand the reach of its Llama AI ecosystem across Africa’s emerging digital markets.
