Google adds Gemini to Play Store for smarter app search

Google adds Gemini to Play Store

Google is integrating its Gemini AI into the Google Play Store, introducing a new way for users to search for Android apps and games using natural language.

Instead of relying only on keywords, users will soon be able to describe what they want in plain language. For example, a search like “offline racing game that works on low storage” can return more relevant app suggestions.

The update is designed to improve app discovery across the Play Store. It helps users find apps based on intent rather than exact search terms, making the process more intuitive.

Google also aims to reduce the visibility of fake apps, misleading listings, and copycats. By using Gemini’s AI understanding, the system can better interpret user queries and surface more trustworthy results.

For users, this means faster and more accurate app discovery. For developers, it could shift attention toward clearer app descriptions and better metadata as AI becomes more central to search ranking.

If widely rolled out, the Play Store could move from traditional keyword search to an AI-driven discovery system powered by Gemini.
